Elias Ingraham (1805-85), a cabinet maker, was commissioned by George Mitchell to design and build a new style of clock case. Ingraham came to work for Mitchell in May of 1828 and eventually designed the sharp gothic clock case in about 1845. This Òsteeple clockÓ style has ever since been one of the most popular designs in American cabinetry. It has been copied and redesigned countless times over the last two centuries. The Sternreiter New Haven model is available with your choice of two modern movements: mechanical or quartz, both with full Westminster chime. There are also a very limited number of versions available with HAND PAINTED dials, painted by the award-winning Black Forest clock dial painter Conny Haas. The New Haven is named for the town in Connecticut which holds some of AmericaÕs most beautiful examples of gothic architecture. The New Haven pays tribute with a reverse-painted glass which harkens to the beauty and complexity of a gothic cathedralÕs rose window. SternreiterÕs New Haven is a large clock at an excellent price. The clock works beautifully on a bracket or stately mantel and is the perfect addition to any American home. These clocks are individually numbered with limited production and are assembled in Berea, Ohio USA.
